PEEK IN THE PORT
- The Portland Pilots are 1-1-1 on the season, taking a loss against the Cal State Fullerton Titans but bouncing back with a 2-1 win over Long Beach State.
- Violet Rademacher and Aliyah Dockter were the two goalscorers for the Pilots against the Beach, with Dockter's goal going down as the game-winner. It's the second game-winning goal of Dockter's career and third goal overall.
- Rademacher's goal was the first of the season for Portland and the seventh of her career. Keeley Dockter earned the assist on her goal.
- Mao Ito and Christina Davenport made their Pilot debuts on Sunday while Talia Niebles-Webb and Adison Bosa did the same last Thursday.
- The Pilots are coming off a season that saw them finish 9-5-6 overall and 4-3-3 in WCC play. They've won at least nine games each of the last four years, marking the first time the Pilots have put together at least nine wins a season for four straight seasons since a stretch between 2010 and 2013.
- Last season, they were second in the WCC in goal differential (19), goals-against average (0.850) and shutout percentage (.400) while leading the conference in save percentage (.828).
- The Pilots were picked to finish sixth in the annual West Coast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, with Keeley Dockter representing the Pilots on the All-WCC Preseason Team. This is Dockter's first time making it on the preseason squad.
- Jillian McBride is the lone returner for the Pilots to earn All-WCC honors last season, making the freshman team. She scored one goal and added two assists in her first year on The Bluff.
- The Pilots return 16 players from last year's squad while adding 11 newcomers.
- Among the key returners are forward Hailey Still and Hailey Bagby, who were second and third respectively on the team in total points. Still scored seven goals for 14 points while Bagby added four goals and four assists as a defender.
- Michelle French is in her eighth season as head coach of the Pilots. She's posted a 61-42-22 record overall and led the Pilots to their first postseason appearance in 2022 in nine years.
ABOUT THE TROJANS
- The USC Trojans are one of the top teams in the nation, slotting in at No. 4 nationally on the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll and 17th on the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 poll.
- They are currently 3-0 with wins over the California Baptist Lancers, the Pepperdine Waves and the New Mexico State Aggies. All three wins have been at home.
- Last season, the Trojans were one of the best teams in the country, going 18-1-4 overall and making the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal before falling to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in PK's.
- The Trojans were picked first in the 2025 Big Ten Preseason Women's Soccer Poll after winning the 2024 Big Ten regular season title at 10-0-1 in conference.
- Three players were named Big Ten Players to Watch: Maribel Flores, Ines Derrien and Faith George.
- Flores played in 15 games last season after missing the first eight playing with Mexico in the U-20 World Cup. She was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year her first season after scoring a team-high six goals in 2023.
- Derrien played in all 23 matches last season, notching a goal and three assists to make the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. She's tied with Flores for the team lead in goals this season with three.
- George also played all 23 matches with three goals and three assists to make the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. She has two goals and one assist on the season.
- Jane Alukonis is in her fourth season as head coach of the Trojans, holding a 44-9-10 record for her career. She was the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2024.
