STOCKTON, Calif. – Portland dropped a 74-51 decision to the Pacific Tigers Wednesday night in West Coast Conference basketball action at the Spanos Center. The Pilots fall to 10-13 and 3-7 in WCC play, while the Tigers (15-8, 6-4) improve to 10-0 in home games this season.
The Pilots were again shorthanded with just 10 active players – including numerous battling illness – and never got into a rhythm on offense. Portland shot just 31 percent overall while Pacific finished at 50.9 percent from the field.
Joel Foxwell was the lone Pilot in double figures with 13 points. Justin Rochelin led four Tigers in double digits with 17 points.
How it Happened
The Pilots struggled offensively early and shot just 25 percent in the first half, including 1-of-10 from three-point range. Pacific finished at 61.5 percent from the floor in the period and took a 40-21 lead into halftime.
Foxwell made a pair of threes early in the second half, but Portland could not get closer than a 15-point deficit in the second stanza.
Game Notes
- The 21-point first half was a Portland season low for any half this season.
- 51 total points was also a season low for Portland.
- Starting wing Matus Hronsky (ill) was not available.
- Sam Noland, who was activated last week after serving on staff as a graduate assistant, played 11 minutes off the bench and scored five points.
- Freshman Dante Censori-Hercules started for the second straight game and finished with seven points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Pacific dominated the interior with a 37-26 rebounding edge and 38-12 margin for points in the paint.
- The Tigers also gained a 17-4 advantage in second chance points.
