Pilots Draw the Pioneers 0-0

DENVER, Colo. – The Portland Pilots had opportunities late, but ultimately tied the Denver Pioneers 0-0 on the road. The draw puts the Pilots at 5-7-2 overall and 1-2-2 in WCC play.

This is the fifth shutout of the year for the Pilots and the first in WCC play. It's the 15th for goalkeeper Sophia Hills for her career. Hills posted four saves as well to earn the clean sheet. Portland outshot the Pioneers 8-5 and put two shots on goal, courtesy of Journey Middleborn and Xayla Black.

How it Happened

Portland and Denver played it tight all the way through. Denver had three shots to Portland's two, but the Pilots fended them off with two saves from Hills. Portland went on the offensive in the second half, outshooting the Pioneers six to two. Portland created chances late, their best chance coming in the final three minutes. But the goal scored by Rose Calkins was nullified by an offside call. The Pilots drew the Pioneers 0-0.

Game Notes
  • This is the fifth shutout of the year for the Pilots. Hills has been in goal for all five shutouts
  • This is the first shutout for Portland in WCC play. They've allowed just one goal or fewer in nine straight matches.
  • This is the 15th shutout of Hills's career.
  • Middleborn and Black both had shots on goal.
  • This was the first time the two teams have played as WCC foes.
