ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Portland Pilots took down the Michigan Wolverines 2-1 on the road to close out nonconference and earn their fourth straight win. The Pilots improve to 5-3-2 on the season.
David Ajagbe and Joe Highfield scored the goals for the Pilots. It was the fourth and fifth goals for the two attackers respectively this season. Highfield, along with Ritvik Karra, earned assists as well.
How it Happened
Portland's two goals came close together, with Ajagbe's goal opening the scoring in the 19th minute. Highfield kicked it out to Karra who skied it across the box to Ajagbe. The Canadian finished it off to give Portland the early 1-0 lead.
Not long after, Nikos Clarke-Tosczak drew the foul in the box to give Portland another chance at a goal in the 22nd minute. Highfield took care of this one, stepping to the spot and drilling the penalty kick to give Portland a 2-0 lead. Michigan scored with nine seconds left, but it was too little too late as the Pilots earned the win.
Game Notes
- Ajagbe's goal was his fourth of the season. He has 21 goals for his career and 14 as a Pilot.
- Highfield's goal and assist are his fifth and sixth respectively of the season. He leads the Pilots in both categories this year.
- Highfield's goal and assist gives him 23 goals and 14 assists, eclipsing 60 points for his career. His six assists on the year are a career high.
- Highfield's seven game-winning goals for his career are tied for seventh all-time in program history.
- Karra's assist was his third of the year. This is the third straight game he's recorded an assist.
- Portland outshot the Wolverines 14-6 and put six shots on goal.
