CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Portland Pilots battled shorthanded, ultimately falling 64-54 in Corvallis to the Oregon State Beavers. The Pilots fall to 15-12 overall and 9-6 in WCC play.

How it Happened
The Pilots got a big boost offensively from Spear, who scored eight points in the opening period. The Pilots held the Beavers to just 33.3% shooting, but Oregon State pounded the boards to give themselves second chances. It was an even quarter most of the way through, with the Beavers leading 16-14 through the first 10 minutes.
The second quarter followed the same script, with both teams putting the clamps on defensively. Portland held the Beavs to 31.3% shooting overall in the quarter. Oregon State had an 8-2 run early in the quarter that got them a lead as big as five, but the Pilots locked down from there, holding the Beavers to just two more points in the quarter and cobbling together an 8-2 run themselves. They led 27-26 at the half.
The Beavers took a commanding lead to start the second half. Portland missed their first six shots while Tiara Bolden and Oregon State scored 17 straight to start the third. Portland scored their first field goal with 3:36 left in the period and had a 6-0 run to try and cut into the lead. Oregon State maintained their double-digit advantage, leading 50-38 after three quarters.
Portland scored the first six points of the quarter and then followed that up with a separate 8-2 run. Three free throws from Anderson cut Oregon State's lead to four points with under a minute to play, giving the Pilots a chance. But the Pilots couldn't quite close the gap, falling 64-54.
