PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland overcame a second half double digit deficit with a 22-0 run and defeated the San Diego Toreros 87-74 in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the Chiles Center.
Garrett Nuckolls led five Pilots (13-18, 6-12 WCC) in double figures with 20 points, while seniors Jermaine Ballisager Webb and Matus Hronsky added 18 and 17 points, respectively, on Senior Day.
Portland outscored the Toreros (11-20, 5-13) by a 55-38 margin in the second half as Ballisager Webb and Hronsky accounted for 27 of those.
The Pilots were playing without starting forward Cameron Williams (concussion) for the third consecutive game, while NaVaughn Long (hand) was also added to Portland's extensive injury list and was unavailable.
Assane Diop led San Diego with 16 points.
How it Happened
San Diego got off to a fast start and raced out to a 16-5 lead. Portland's defense would pick up and force eight first half turnovers by the Toreros, but USD shot 56 percent from the field to go up 36-32 at the break.
San Diego extended their lead to 53-39 on a Diop layup before Portland stormed back with a 22-0 run spurred by 10 points from Ballisager Webb and a pair of three-pointers from Hronsky. Ballisager Webb's dunk made it 61-55 with 9:16 remaining, but the Toreros pulled back withing 64-62 two minutes later. Nuckolls buried a three and then hit a pull up jumper to bookend a 7-0 run and give the Pilots some breathing room. Hronsky followed with two more threes to push the margin to double figures and San Diego was unable to mount another rally.

- San Diego shot 54 percent for the game and the Pilots finished at 52 percent.

- Portland also had a 31-24 rebounding advantage.
- The Pilots controlled the paint with a 46-36 margin.
- The game had zero ties and just the one lead change.
