PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots took down the No. 17 Oregon State Beavers 3-1 for their ninth home win, their first win over the Beavers since 2024 and their first at Joe Etzel Field since 2021. Their win puts them at 11-7 overall.
Portland was stellar on the mound, holding the Beavers to just one run and three hits, the first time they've held the Beavers to one run or fewer since 2019. Carter Gaston earned the win, going five innings in the start with five strikeouts. His third win gives him the most on the Pilots. Morgan Codron and Kaden Segel each threw two shutout innings, with Codron punching out three batters and Segel two batters. Segel earned his second save of the year.
The Pilots had three runs on six hits, led by Leo Cote's 2-for-2 outing with an RBI, a run and a steal. Cole Katayama-Stall went 1-for-3 with two runs and two steals and Brady Bean had a 1-for-3 outing with two stolen bases. Their five stolen bases match a season high.
How it Happened
The first run of the game was Oregon State's only score, coming on a wild pitch with a runner on third. Portland took the lead the following inning, with Cote's RBI single bringing home Katayama-Stall to make it 2-1 Portland.
Trey Swygart's RBI single made it 3-1 Pilots. Portland got two outs in the top of the ninth before Oregon State loaded the bases. But the Pilots didn't waver, with Segel forcing the flyout to give Portland their first home win over the Beavs since 2021.
