EUGENE, Ore. – For the third straight year, the Portland Pilots have taken down the No. 15 Oregon Ducks in Eugene, winning 3-0. The win is Portland's 10
th in 11 games and puts them at 18-8 overall.
The Pilots had three runs on eight hits, featuring homers from Brady Bean and Jonas Salk. Both batters went 1-for-4, with Bean's homer bringing home one run and Salk's bringing home two. Bean's homer was his fifth of the year and the 22
nd of his career while Salk's was his fourth and also the 22
nd career dinger for the second baseman. Cole Katayama-Stall continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-3 outing.
Logan Anderson started for Portland, going three shutout innings with no runs and one hit allowed. Aaron Louis followed up and took the win with four innings pitched, no hits or runs allowed and three strikeouts. Callum Young and Alex Via also both made appearances, with Via earning his sixth save of the year in 1.2 innings. Via's six saves are the most ever by a Pilot true freshman in a single season.
How it Happened
The bats were silent for both sides until Bean's homer in the third. Bean's moonshot soared to right center and over the wall to give Portland the 1-0 lead.
The ninth inning saw Portland give themselves some cushion. Salk's two-run shot came in the final inning and the Pilots racked up the hits before a tough strike call sent the game to the bottom frame. Via was stellar to close things out, striking out one and holding the Ducks hitless to earn his sixth save and deliver the 3-0 win for the Pilots.
