BELLEVUE, Wash. – The Portland Pilots had some crucial errors and couldn't quite generate the runs in the series opener against the Seattle U Redhawks, dropping Game 1 to the Redhawks 5-1. The Pilots fall to 18-9 on the year and 5-2 in WCC play.
Trey Swygart extended his on-base streak to 19 games, going 3-for-3 with a double and a walk. Cole Katayama-Stall homered in this one, his team-high sixth of the year and third in WCC play. He was 2-for-4 at the plate overall.
Carter Gaston started and took the loss, going three innings with four runs allowed – and only two earned – and a strikeout. It's the first loss of the year for Gaston. Swygart was on the mound for Portland as well and was solid in relief, with four innings pitched and no runs allowed and six strikeouts. Nolan Umlandt threw an inning with one run and one hit conceded.
