BELLEVUE, Wash. – Portland Pilots Baseball dropped Game 2 against the Seattle U Redhawks on the road 6-2, losing the series. The Pilots fall to 18-10 on the year.
The Pilots had two runs on eight hits, with Cole Katayama-Stall hitting his second home run of the series, his seventh of the year and his fourth in conference play. He was 1-for-3 with a homer and a hit by pitch. Jonas Salk, Isaac Pfeifer and Cody Nitowitz all had multiple hits today, with Salk going 2-for-4 with a double and Pfeifer and Nitowitz each going 2-for-3.
Trey Newmann takes the loss after going five innings with three runs and eight hits allowed, with only two of those earned. Newmann's eight strikeouts were a season high and also the most by any Pilot this year. Kaden Segel threw three innings in relief, allowing six hits and three runs.
How it Happened
Portland started off strong with Katayama-Stall's solo shot in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Portland scored again in the fourth on an RBI groundout that brought home Brady Bean to make it 2-0 Portland.
Seattle U took over the scoring from there, responding with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth to make it 2-1. They scored two runs in the fifth – one unearned – two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to reach six runs. The Redhawks would win 6-2.
Game Notes
- Katayama-Stall hit his seventh home run of the season, his second of the series and his fourth in WCC play in a 1-for-3 effort.
- Katayama-Stall's seven homers leads the Pilots. His four conference homers are tied for the second most in WCC play.
- Salk, Pfeifer and Nitowitz all had multiple hits on the day, with Salk adding a double in his 2-for-4 outing.
- Newmann took the loss after conceding three runs and eight hits, but also added eight strikeouts. His eight K's are the most by a Pilot this season.
- This is the first series loss for the Pilots since February.
