BELLEVUE, Wash. – The Portland Pilots avoided the sweep with a stellar 3-0 shutout of the Seattle U Redhawks. The Pilots improved to 19-10 on the year and 6-3 in WCC play.
Will Labonte dominated on the mound, going six innings with no runs and just two hits allowed along with six strikeouts. It's the fourth time he's allowed no runs in an appearance, with all of those appearances being four innings or more. His six innings thrown match a career high as well. Morgan Codron and Alex Via allowed no other hits or runs combined, with Codron striking out four and Via two. Via earned his seventh save of the season.
Offensively, Cody Nitowitz went 2-for-4 as the only multi-hit batter for the Pilots, his seventh multi-hit game of the season. Trey Swygart and Jonas Salk both got RBI's, with Swygart going 1-for-4 as well. Cole Katayama-Stall had the lone extra-base hit for Portalnd with a double in a 1-for-4 outing.
How it Happened
All the scoring happened in the first inning. Swygart started the scoring with his RBI single to bring home Brady Bean, then Salk drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in his RBI. Nolan Miller grounded into a double play to bring home the third run, then it was all Pilot pitching and defense from there. Portland stifled the Redhawks defensively to earn the 3-0 victory.
