PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots belted the San Francisco Dons 11-0 in seven innings to clinch the series at Joe Etzel Field. The Pilots improve to 22-15 overall and 8-7 in WCC play.
Trey Swygart shined both on the mound and at the plate for Portland. Offensively, Swygart was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, he threw 6.1 innings with no runs and just four hits along with five strikeouts. He earned the win to improve to 4-0 on the year, and his 6.1 innings pitched are both a season and a career high. Morgan Codron threw two-thirds of an inning as well to close it out.
Cole Katayama-Stall was once again the engine for the Pilot offense. Katayama-Stall went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI's and two runs scored, and he was the only Pilot to record multiple hits in the game. Gage Bruce drove in three RBI's on a double, hitting 1-for-2 overall, and Nolan Miller drove in two runs in a 1-for-2 outing.
How it Happened
Portland opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first. Katayama-Stall hit his RBI double and Swygart had a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Portland through the first frame.
Portland added to that lead in the fourth inning. Miller ripped a single to left field and Brady Bean hit a deep sac fly to center field that put the Pilots up 4-0.
The Pilots blew the game wide open in the sixth and closed it out from there. They scored seven runs in the bottom frame, with Katayama-Stall, Miller, Bruce and Carter Stewart all recording RBI hits, Miller recording an RBI walk in a second appearance and the Pilots scoring on an error as well. The Dons loaded the bases in the seventh, but the Pilots shut them down and won on the run rule 11-0.
