PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis defeated the Saint Mary's Gaels 6-1 on Saturday in West Coast Conference action at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. Following Thursday's 4-0 sweep of Pacific, the Pilots improve to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in WCC matches.

Portland secured the doubles point with a pair of tiebreak wins. After the Gaels (7-10, 3-2) won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, the Pilot No. 1 duo of Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu beat Sofia Daryaie and Tiana Fox 7-2 in the first tiebreaker. Portland's No. 3 tandem of Meagan Pearson and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez then clinched with a 7-4 win against Sophie Stanton and Sydney Wilson.

The momentum carried into the first wave of singles as the Pilots clinched the team win with straight set victories at the top three positions in the lineup. Dariya Radulova cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Fox and then Rubio Perez knocked off Daryaie 7-5, 6-4 at the top of the order. Arbaizar Martinez defeated Elif Gunal 6-3, 7-5 to provide the team clinch.

Galatescu won her No. 4 singles match over Madison Weekley 6-2, 7-6 and Lexie Flores knocked off Sophie Stanton 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 for Portland's final point.

The Pilots continue WCC play next weekend with a road trip to Gonzaga and Washington State. Portland takes on the Bulldogs Saturday at noon and then the Cougars on Sunday at 11 a.m. Visit PortlandPilots.com for live scoring and video links.
