NEW YORK, N.Y. – University of Portland women's basketball alumna Alex Fowler was signed to a developmental player contract by the New York Liberty,
the team announced Thursday. Fowler will be activated for the Liberty's game tonight against the Portland Fire at the Moda Center. The 2023 graduate becomes the first Pilot to make a WNBA roster.
Fowler concluded her four-year career with the Pilots as the program's Division I all-time leader in points (2,132), field goals made (832), field goal percentage (.550) and rebounds (882). She also ranks No. 10 in blocked shots (89) and No. 12 in steals (205).
The Australian native is the only player in program history to earn All-West Coast Conference First Team honors four times and she ranks No. 5 on the conference's all-time scoring list. She was the 2020 WCC Newcomer of the Year and earned WCC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after leading the Pilots to titles and NCAA Tournament qualification in 2020 and 2023.
Fowler has had a very success professional and international career since leaving The Bluff. She helped lead the Townsville Fire of Australia's WNBL to the 2025-26 championship, averaging 10.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals over 28 games, while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from three-point range.
She was named the WNBL Rookie of the Year in 2024 for the Fire and averaged 21.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per contest in 15 games with the Perry Lakes Hawks during the 2025 NBL1 season.
While representing Australia, Fowler earned MVP honors at the 2025 FIBA Women's Asia Cup, averaging 11.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and leading the Opals to a gold medal.
Fowler averaged 4.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in two preseason appearances with the Liberty.
