MALIBU, Calif. – Portland Pilots baseball dropped the series opener to the Pepperdine Waves 5-3. The loss puts Portland at 25-21 overall and 11-11 in WCC play.
Jonas Salk was the lone multi-hit batter for the Pilots, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI's. He moved to a tie for 12
th all-time for Portland in RBI's at 110 total. Dakota Chun had the other RBI for Portland in a 1-for-4 effort. Portland had three runs on seven hits.
Trey Swygart took the loss for Portland. He went 3.1 innings in relief and allowed two runs and five hits. Will Labonte started for Portland, going 4.2 innings with three runs and five hits allowed as well as a strikeout.
How it Happened
Portland started the scoring with a score on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0 Pilots. The Waves tied it back up in the fourth on a single, making the score 1-1 through four innings.
The Waves took the lead in the fifth on a single, but the Pilots tied it back up soon after. Salk had his second hit of the day on a two-run double in the sixth, evening the contest at three a piece. But that lead didn't hold, with the Pepperdine scoring twice in the seventh to take the lead and win 5-3.
