PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots earned a victory in their first home contest of the season, taking down their crosstown rival, the Portland State Vikings, 1-0. The match puts Portland at 2-5-0 on the year.
Violet Rademacher scored the lone goal for Portland on a penalty kick. Portland outshot the Vikings 13-5 and had five corners to Portland State's three. Portland improves to 9-0-1 against the Vikings all-time and posts their second shutout of the season.
How it Happened
Portland came out strong in the first half and never looked back. The goal came for Portland in the 23
rd minute, when a Portland State handball after review gave Portland a PK opportunity. Violet Rademacher took the kick and knocked it into the back of the net for the score. The Pilots held steady from there to secure the 1-0 victory.
Game Notes
- Rademacher scored her second goal of the year and 15th of her career. She's the first Pilot to score multiple goals this season.
- Portland outshot the Vikings 13-5 on the day. They have outshot their last three opponents.
- Sophia Hills had three saves on the day. The shutout is the second of the season for Portland and the second for Hills.
- Portland improves to 9-0-1 all-time against the Vikings.
- This was Portland's first game at Merlo Field this season.
