Pilots Post Third Straight Shutout to end Nonconference, Defeat Aggies 2-0

PORTLAND, Ore. – Tayvi Khann and Ruby Settle both scored in Portland's 2-0 win over the UC Davis Aggies to close out nonconference play. Portland improves to 4-5-0 on the season and 3-0-0 at Merlo Field.
 
Khann's goal was her first of the season and the second of her career. Journey Middleborn and Hailey Bagby both recorded assists on the play. Settle's goal was her second of the year and sixth of her career, coming off her first PK as a Pilot.
 
Portland is now unbeaten in their last three matches. With three wins at Merlo Field to start the year, Portland is 3-0-0 at home for the first time since 2016. Their three shutout wins to start play at Merlo are a first since 2010.
 
How it Happened
 
Portland scored early in the match with Khann's goal in the sixth minute. Bagby pushed it to the right side to Middleborn as Khann cut into the box. Middleborn sent the ball to Khann who kicked it with force into the back of the net. Portland led 1-0, a lead they held the rest of the half.
 
The Pilots got back on the board just over six minutes into the second half. Bagby once again created the action, drawing a foul in the box that led to a penalty kick. Settle stepped to the spot and knocked it in in the 52nd minute to make it 2-0 Pilots. The score would hold the rest of the way.
 
Game Notes
  • Khann's goal was her first of the year and the second of her career. Khann is the sixth Pilot to score this season.
  • Settle's goal was her second in as many games and the sixth of her career. This is her first goal off a penalty kick as a Pilot.
  • Middleborn and Bagby recorded the first assists of the season on Khann's goal.
  • Portland improves to 3-0 at home. It's the first time they've earned three wins in their first three home matches since 2016.
  • The Pilots are unbeaten in their last three home matches.
  • Portland's shutout is their fourth of the season, with Sophia Hills in goal for all four shutouts. She's posted 15 shutouts now for her career.
  • With her three saves tonight, Hills has 30 saves on the season.
  • This is the first time the Pilots have posted shutout wins in their first three home matches since 2010.
  • This was the final nonconference match for Portland.
