Pilots Score Twice in Shutout Victory Over New Hampshire

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots took down the New Hampshire Wildcats 2-0 at Merlo Field, posting their second straight shutout. The victory puts the Pilots at 2-3-2 on the year.
 
Isaac Emojong and David Ajagbe had the goals for Portland. It was the first goal of the year for both Pilots, and Emojong's first in a Pilot jersey. Anton Hjalmarsson had an assist on both goals, with Ritvik Karra and Joe Highfield also both earning assists.
 
How it Happened
 
The game was even early before the Pilots went on the offensive to end the half. The first goal came for Portland in the 34th minute. Diego Rosas crossed into the box to Hjalmarsson, who headed it out to Karra. The midfielder sent a low ball into the box to Emojong, who pounded the low shot to open his account. Portland led 1-0 deep into the first half.
 
Portland limited New Hampshire's opportunities from there while creating their own chances. Their hard work paid off with a second goal in the 62nd minute. After turning over the Wildcats, Highfield found a cutting Hjalmarsson, who made the final pass to Ajagbe. Ajagbe finished the play, putting Portland up 2-0. The score would hold the rest of the way.
 
Game Notes
  • Emojong and Ajagbe both scored their first goals of the season.
  • This is the first goal for Emojong in a Pilot uniform and the 11th goal of his career.
  • Ajagbe's goal was the 11th of his Pilot career and his 18th overall.
  • Karra's assist was his first of the year while Highfield's assist was his second.
  • Highfield's six points this season leads the Pilots.
  • This is the first time Hjalmarsson has posted two assists in a game as a Pilot. HE has 18 now for his career, giving him 68 career points.
  • Portland outshot the Wildcats 15-8 and put eight shots on goal.
  • This is the first shutout win for the Pilots and their third shutout overall.
  • Hernandez gets credit for the shutout, his third with Portland this year.
