FULLERTON, Calif. – In an even matchup at Titan Stadium, the Portland Pilots narrowly dropped their match against the Cal State Fullerton Titans 1-0. The loss puts Portland at 1-5-0 on the year.
Sunday's match marks the end of what's been a six-game road stretch for the Pilots to start the season. Sophia Hills recorded five saves in goal, marking her third game this year with at least five saves. The Pilots had 18 shots on the day with five shots on goal.
How it Happened
The Pilots and Titans kept pace with one another most of the way through. Portland controlled most of the action early, with Journey Middleborn putting two shots on goal and applying pressure on the Titan defense. Both teams had 10 shots a piece in the first half but no goals, with the score at 0-0 after the first 45.
The second 45 was just as tight, with a goal coming in the 80
th minute. Fullerton sent a ball into the six-yard box with Cassie Villaneuva taking the shot. The shot bounced off Aliyah Dockter and redirected into the goal. Middleborn and Hailey Bagby had a pair of opportunities in the waning seconds to try and equalize, but couldn't connect. The Pilots fell 1-0.

- The Pilots and Titans combined for 34 shots, with Portland putting 18 shots up with five on goal.
- Portland's 18 shots are the most they've posted in a game this season and the most they've had in a game in two years.
