The University of Portland hired former University of Southern California strength and conditioning coach Bradford Scott as the Director of Athletic Performance for the Pilots, Athletic Director Larry Williams announced on Sept. 18, 2007.
Before coming to UP, Scott spent a year at USC as the head strength, speed and conditioning coach for the men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s volleyball programs. Scott worked directly with the Trojans’ 2007 NCAA Sweet 16 basketball team that had two players drafted in the 2007 NBA draft.
Portland men’s basketball head coach Eric Reveno recognizes the importance of the position to the long-term success of UP athletics, especially to his program which features ten underclassmen this season.
Prior to his stay at USC, Scott was the director of strength, speed and conditioning at Cal State Northridge and managed the program for all 16 sports. He interned for two years with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League from 2004-06. Scott also served as a graduate assistant at the University of Arizona from 2001-04 while obtaining his Master of Education degree. He is a 2001 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Boston with a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise physiology.

Catherine Wade was hired as the Assistant Athletic Performance Coach, in July of 2011. Wade, who played collegiate soccer at the University of Oklahoma, spent the previous two years as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Columbia University.
Wade’s primary focus at UP is the women’s basketball, baseball, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s rowing teams, while covering certain aspects for the track & field squad.
While at Columbia, Wade was responsible for the testing procedures and the strength and conditioning for 11 varsity programs. She also designed and instructed a Strength Training class, which was available to the general student body. Prior to her stint at Columbia, Wade spent a year as the strength and conditioning intern at the University of Houston. Wade was also an assistant coach at CATZ Sports during her time at Houston.
A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Wade earned a Masters of Science (Exercise Science) from Syracuse University in June of 2008. As the Syracuse Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant, Wade worked with the women’s soccer and basketball teams.
Wade was a four-year starting goalkeeper at Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May of 2005. A team captain for the Sooners in 2003 and 2004, Wade is OU’s career record holder in goals against average, saves and shutouts. After graduating, she spent two years as a women’s soccer graduate assistant coach before moving to the strength and conditioning staff.
