Faris Wasim was named Director of Basketball Operations in October of 2019 by Pilot head coach Terry Porter. Wasim joins the program after spending four seasons at the University of Virginia, where the Cavaliers claimed the 2019 NCAA Championship.
“Faris has been a vital part of a championship program the last four years at Virginia,” Porter said. “He comes with great recommendations and a desire to help our program in a variety of ways. We are excited about the energy and passion he brings to our office.”
Wasim was a team manager for Virginia each of his four seasons as an undergraduate. His roles included working closely with the Director of Basketball Operations, Director of Player Personnel and Director of Recruiting/Player Development in managing the day-to-day operations of the team.
Specific duties included assisting in scheduling, team travel, practice operations, on-campus recruiting visits and video breakdown.
Wasim also served as a recruiting assistant in 2018 as he helped the coaching staff during the summer recruiting period. Wasim coordinated schedules, assisted with travel logistics and accommodations and traveled with coaches to recruiting events.
Wasim was an intern for the Virginia Athletics Foundation during the 2017-18 academic year and was part of a team that raised the most money in a single fiscal year for the organization.
Wasim graduated with honors from Virginia in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and minor in health policy.
