Cody Carlson joined the University of Portland men’s soccer staff as the director of operations in July of 2017. Carlson came to The Bluff from the University of Redlands, where he was the men’s soccer assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for three years (2014-17).
While at Redlands, Carlson helped lead the Bulldogs to their highest national ranking ever, reaching No. 7 in 2016, and they claimed regular season SCIAC Conference Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and SCIAC Post-Season Tournament Championships in 2015 and 2016. Redlands reached the NCAA DIII Quarterfinals in 2016 after advancing to the Second Round in 2015. The staff was named the SCIAC’s Coaching Staff of the Year in 2015, as well as NSCAA All-West Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2015 and 2016. Carlson helped guide 12 All-SCIAC Players, one league player of the year, eight NSCAA All-West Region selections, four NSCAA Scholar All-West Region players, three NSCAA Scholar All-Americans and two CoSIDA Academic All-District players.
Carlson was also the head coach of the Redlands High School boys varsity team for one season (2016). In his one year at the helm, he led the team to a third-place league finish and the CIF Playoffs, after they placed eighth the previous year. Other head coaching stints for Carlson include club soccer with IER Pateadores B2000's, and Riverside Coras of the NPSL, where he led the squad to a 3rd place finish and into playoffs. He is currently coaching the U-10 boys youth academy at FC Portland.
Carlson played collegiately at Redlands (2008-11), where he was the SCIAC Conference Player of the Year as a senior in 2011. He was also a two-time NSCAA All-West Region First Team pick, he landed on the SCIAC all-conference first team three times, and he was an NSCAA All-America Third Team selection in 2010. A two-year team captain, Carlson landed on the NSCAA Scholar America Second Team, the NSCAA Scholar All-West Region First Team, and the CoSIDA All-District Second Team.
Following college, Carlson played professionally for Pali Blues FC and Ventura County Fusion FC in the PDL, and for the Ontario Fury in the MASL.
Carlson holds a USSF 'C' Coaching License and he graduated with B.S. in business administration from the University of Redlands in 2012. In 2016, he earned a masters from Redlands in business management.
