Jason Brough has spent 22 years in a professional capacity at the University of Portland, overseeing a variety of units within the Athletics Department, primarily on the external side. Promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director in 2018, he currently leads all Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiatives for Portland’s 16 varsity athletic programs. His portfolio also includes public relations, communications, digital media, broadcast production, and team scheduling. Brough serves as the sport administrator for men’s basketball, men’s tennis, and women’s tennis.
Over the course of his tenure, Brough has led head coaching searches for men’s basketball, women’s soccer, and women’s tennis, and previously had managerial oversight of marketing, ticketing, facilities, and game operations as part of the Athletics Department’s senior leadership team. He served as the sport administrator for Portland’s nationally renowned women’s soccer program for eight years and was the Sports Information Director during the team’s historic undefeated run to the 2005 NCAA Championship.
In his current role managing the University’s NIL efforts, Brough works closely with University leadership, athletics staff, coaches, and student-athletes to maximize opportunities, provide education, and ensure compliance with NCAA, state, and federal regulations. He partnered with University legal counsel to create customized NIL contracts and collaborated with the Controller’s Office to establish payment structures, including processes for international student-athletes. He also serves as the University’s NCAA “Change Champion” for the College Athlete Payment System (CAPS) and NILGo, and is the primary point of contact for Teamworks GM and the Opendorse Marketplace.
From 2020–2023, Brough was appointed to the 12-person NCAA Tennis Committee, concurrently serving on the NCAA Tennis Rules Subcommittee. On campus, he has been actively engaged in University governance, serving as Co-Chair of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Budgets in 2021 and as a member of the Presidential Inauguration Committee in 2022. He was honored with the Hooyboer Outstanding Professional Staff Award in 2013, presented annually to one individual across the entire University staff.
Brough also serves as the primary liaison for all television, radio, and digital media contracts involving UP Athletics and local media partners. He was an Executive Producer for the Portland Sports Network, which has won 12 Northwest Emmy Student Production Awards, and annually produces 10–15 games for live broadcast on local and regional television, in addition to overseeing all ESPN+ streaming productions.
As a senior administrator, Brough has played a key role in hosting numerous high-profile events on campus, including PK80 and PK85 basketball tournaments, OSAA state basketball championships, NCAA Championship events, and training sessions for professional sports teams held on The Bluff.
A 2003 graduate of the University of Portland’s School of Business, Brough began his career in the Sports Information Department immediately after graduation. He was promoted to Sports Information Director within two years and joined the department’s senior staff in 2005.
