Portland Pilots Women's Basketball has added Jerod Gibson to the staff as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season, head coach Michael Meek announced on July 7, 2023.
"We are very excited to have Coach Gibson join our staff at the University of Portland," Portland head coach Michael Meek said. "He brings a plethora of experience, positive energy and is a relentless worker. Jerod has proven he can develop his players, but more importantly he puts at the forefront cultivating a great team environment and culture, something we value highly here on The Bluff."
Gibson joins the Pilots after serving for the last five seasons as the head women's basketball coach of the Linn-Benton Community College Roadrunners in Albany, Ore. Gibson led the Roadrunners to an overall mark of 72-49 record over five years, including a 21-7 record this season. This year, he led LBCC to the NWAC Tournament for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
Gibson joins the Pilot after stints coaching locally at both the high school and college level. Prior to his time at Linn-Benton, Gibson spent five years with the Pacific Boxers' men's basketball team here in Forest Grove, including one season as head coach. He handled defensive responsibilities and guard development while also serving as the recruiting coordinator and head coach of the development team.
Before Pacific, Gibson spent eight seasons as an assistant coach for the Western Oregon Wolves, helping keep the team competitive in one of the toughest men's basketball conferences at the NCAA Division II level, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Early in his career, he was an assistant coach at Beaverton High School for the 2004-05 season and a student assistant coach at Portland State in the 2003-04 season, his senior year. Gibson was an assistant at Roosevelt High School and Corvallis High School as well and has worked as both a camp director and coach at Larry Steel's, United States Basketball Academy and Cascade Basketball camps.
