Six University of Portland athletic alumni are among a group of 82 athletes scheduled to be inducted into the Portland Interscholastic League Hall of Fame. The banquet is set for Oct. 5 at the Multnomah Athletic Club and a fund-raising golf tournament is scheduled for Oct. 19 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. The events are part of a larger plan to improve scholarships available to athletes and increase funding of PIL sports.
The PIL Hall of Fame will induct the large number to make up for a six-year lapse during the ’90s. The Hall of Fame, which began in 1982, has no permanent home but may be housed on a movable kiosk that could rotate among the district’s 10 schools and other sites such as the Oregon Convention Center.
The six inductees with University of Portland ties are: Stan Bozich (Baseball, 1950-53), Richard “Dick” Jolley (Men’s Basketball, 1956-59), Philip Loprinzi (UP Football), Brian Fundingsland (Men’s Basketball, 1981-85), Karyl Wing Johnson (Women’s Basketball, 1981-85), and Jim Winters (Men’s Basketball, 1950-53; 1955-56).
