Seattle, Wash. --- The Portland Pilots men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out their indoor season at the University of Washington’s Last Chance Meet on Saturday in record-breaking fashion. Three Pilots sped their way to personal bests while also scaling UP’s all-time charts. For complete meet results, click here.
“This was a nice finish to our indoor season,” said head coach Ian Solof. “Natalie Hemphill ran an excellent double of 4:53/2:14, Lyndy Davis took 17 seconds off her 3k best, and Sifrash Ademe ran a very strong PR of 9:42 in the 3k. I’m really looking forward to what the team can do outdoors.”
Hemphill’s 800m performance of 2:14.97 landed her at the No. 4 spot on UP’s all-time list. The junior, from Ashland, Ore., also posted a program second-best all-time result in the mile with 4:53.02.
Senior Ademe’s PR in the 3k vaulted her to the fourth-spot on UP’s all-time list. Freshman Davis broke into the UP record books with a time of 10:04.14, which is ninth best all-time.
Theresa Hailey, a sophomore from Deer Park, Wash., posted a personal best in the 800 meters and a UP all-time eighth-best with a time of 2:18.80. Hailey’s time of 5:01.27 in the mile moved her up to seventh all-time.
On the men’s side, UP took the second, third and fourth places in the 3k with senior Justin Houck leading all Pilots with a time of 8:21.81. Redshirt-freshman Matt Frerker was close behind at 8:22.73 while freshman Jared Bassett crossed the line at 8:24.00.

The Pilots next begin the outdoor season on Friday, March 20 at the Charles Bowles Classic in Salem, Ore.
