Women's 2016 Complete Schedule/Results
PORTLAND, Ore. --- Four members of the Portland Pilots men's and women's track & field teams will head to Eugene, Ore. for the 2016 NCAA Track & Field National Championship on June 8-11. Reid Buchanan, Woody Kincaid, Lauren LaRocco, and Kaylie Van Loo will make the two hour drive down I-5 to take on the best in the country.
This marks the 25
th year in a row a Pilot has competed at Nationals and the second year in a row where four student-athletes have qualified, tying a program best.
Buchanan will be the first Pilot to compete for a spot on the podium at historic Hayward Field, taking the track in the 10,000m on Wednesday, June 8 at 7:08 p.m. Buchanan earned his second trip to Nationals with a 7
th place finish at the Western Regional Qualifier with a time of 29:53.54.
"I'm super pumped for Reid in the 10,000," said men's track & field head coach Rob Conner. "Since he is new to the event he is fresh and excited for it. He has been one of the most consistent runners we have ever had. I have no doubt he will have a great race."
Kincaid will return to Nationals looking to top his last year's 5
th place finish in the 5,000m. Two weeks ago he won his regional race with a time of 14:09.13 and will step to the start line with the third fastest qualifying time on Friday, June 10 at 7:25 p.m.
"Woody has had to wait a full year for this opportunity to come again," stated Conner. "He had a great race last year and will definitely have another great one this year!"
In her first trip to Nationals, LaRocco will compete in the 5,000m and the 10,000m. First up will be the 10,000m, which will take place on Thursday, June 9 at 7:08 p.m. She will return to the track on the final day of competition—Saturday, June 11—at 5:25 p.m. for the 5,000m.
"Lauren is having an amazing season and really impressed me with her tough racing at the preliminary round," said women's track & field head coach Ian Solof. "I think she will be just as ready for Eugene. We aren't going to put any limits on what she can do and will keep the emphasis on running smart and competing to her fullest in both the 5k and 10k."
Van Loo will be the first thrower in program history to compete at Nationals for Portland and the first field event in ten years. She set a six foot PR at Regionals to qualify with a throw of 167-8, and she will look to improve on that on Thursday, June 9 at 5:45 p.m.
All events will be broadcasted live on ESPN3, ESPN, ESPNU, or ESPN2. The broadcast schedule is below:
