PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots never trailed and all 13 active players scored in a 103-61 victory over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers on Saturday night at the Chiles Center in the team's final exhibition game of the 2017-18 season.
Redshirt freshman guard Malcolm Porter led five Pilots in double figures with 14 points, while freshman guard JoJo Walker finished with 13 points. Sophomores Josh McSwiggan and Franklin Porter added 12 apiece, while junior Rashad Jackson finished with 10. Senior center Philipp Hartwich grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in 24 minutes.
Despite the large final margin, the Pilots struggled with free throws and turnovers in the first half and led by just nine at the break, 37-28. An 18-0 run midway through the second half put the game out of reach and Portland would double the Pioneers by a 66-33 margin after the break.
Portland shot 74 percent from the field in the second half and made 4-of-5 three-pointers. The Pilots also committed just three of their 14 turnovers after intermission.
The young Pilots were able to get out into transition and ran up a 16-0 margin for the night in fast break points and 66-14 margin in points in the paint.
In addition to all Pilots scoring, all 13 players also collected a rebound as Portland gained a 53-48 rebounding advantage.
Portland shot 59 percent overall, but made just 17-of-33 free throws. Lewis and Clark was held to 26 percent shooting and 7-of-12 at the foul line.
