LONDON, England – The Portland Pilots defeated a collection of current and former Barking Abbey Basketball Academy players by a 74-59 margin on Saturday afternoon at Barking Abbey. The Pilots conclude the tour with a 3-1 record, with the lone loss on a Thursday buzzer-beater at Leicester.
Freshman point guard JoJo Walker scored a team-high 14 points off the bench for the Pilots, while senior center Philipp Hartwich continued his dominant inside play with eight points, 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots.
Barking Abbey is considered the top developmental program in the nation and Saturday's roster featured a mix of players that are playing for the current club, overseas collegiately, professionally, and also featured players that had appeared on the Great Britain National Team.
Redshirt freshman guard Malcolm Porter added 11 points and seven rebounds in a balanced Pilot attack that featured ten players with four or more points.
Portland shot 45 percent from the field and held Barking Abbey to 31 percent overall. The Pilots committed 22 turnovers, but forced 24 from Barking Abbey. The Pilots dominated the interior with a 42-18 edge in points in the paint.
With the basketball schedule completed, the team will now take a couple of days to tour London and do some sightseeing before returning to Portland on Tuesday.
