PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams concluded the Lewis and Clark Open Saturday afternoon, at Griswold Stadium. The 1500m Portland women led the Pilots with top performances of the day claiming all but one of the top 13 spots.
"Our 1500m runners did a great job, especially Maddy Lyons and Emily Bechen, who both really impressed me," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "Christina Francisco had a strong meet with nice improvements in the 200 and 400 compared to two weeks ago."
Junior Taryn Rawlings currently holds the fastest 1500m time in the West, with her first-place finish in 4:25.84. Maddy Lyons and Aoibhe Richardson ran strong races as well, placing second and third in 4:33.76 and 4:33.99, respectively. Both Pilots also recorded top-ten times in the west, with Lyons' being a seven second PR.
On the men's side, junior Malcolm Roux was the top finisher for the Pilots in the men's 1500m, with a time of 4:00.98 and junior Noah Schutte the top finisher in the 5000m, placing second (14:32.78). Senior Conor Johnston and freshman Peter Gentile set new personal records in the 1500 with times of 4:01.95 and 4:12.49, while junior Reuben Kiprono (14:40.57) and sophomore Cole Shugart (15:01.08) set new prs in the 5000m. Schutte's time also currently ranks as 7th best in the West.
The Pilots will next be in action on March 24 at the Willamette Invite in Salem, Ore.
