PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams will be in action at the Stanford Invite and the SF State Distance Carnival on the Stanford Campus and Chabot College in Hayward, Calif. Both events will take place on Friday and conclude that evening.

Sophomore Maddy Lyons will start off the SF State Distance Carnival for the Pilots, competition first in the 1500m. A mix of Portland men and women will then continue to race in the 1500m, steeplechase, and 5000m thought-out the day. At the Stanford Invite, juniors Taryn Rawlings and Lauren LaRocco will be the featured Pilots in the 5000m for the women, LaRocco seeded to race in the second section and Rawlings in the Invite.

"This should be a fun weekend with lots of good racing opportunities," said head women's coach Ian Solof. "Everyone is excited, and we are focusing on the 1500 and 5k. Many of our women are fitter than they have ever been and I look forward to seeing what they can do."

On the men's side, junior Simon Grannetia will compete in the second heat Stanford's men's 3000m steeplechase to begin the evening for the Pilots. Grannetia currently sits at second in the nation in the event. The Stanford men's 10,000m will also be a strong race for the Pilots, with all seven runners of the 2017 XC national runner up squad competing in section two and the invitational heat.
