AZUSA/TORRANCE, Calif.— The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition at the Bryan Clay Invite and the Mt. Sac Relays. Junior Simon Grannetia led the Pilots on the night with a first-place finish in his heat of the 3000m steeplechase, while sophomore Maya Murphy-Cook moved up on two different UP All-Time Records lists with exceptional performances in the 100m and 200m.
"We had three nice PRs tonight, led by Maddy Lyons who continues to impress me," said women's head coach Ian Solof. Courtney Cox also looked fantastic and Natalie Smith had one of her best races ever."
Though Grannetia cross the finish line in the steeplechase with a time of 8:43.94, fellow Dutchman Noah Schutte followed closely behind, placing 4
th in the race with a time of 8:47.52. In the 1500m, junior Trent Mazeli lead the Pilots with a time of 3:44.47 and Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse and Stuart McCallum both set huge personal bests with times of 3:45.16 and 3:45.33 respectively.
On the women's side, Murphy-Cook moved up to sixth and fifth all-time at UP running 15.09 in 12.48 in the 100m and 25.41 in the 200m. Fellow sophomore sprinter Michal Jones also moved up on UP's all-time list in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.05.
"Maya and Michal both had huge days and competed really well," continued Solof. "They took advantage of the great competition and weather and stepped up to a new level."
The Pilots will next be in action at the OSU High Performance meet on April 27-28 in Corvallis, Ore.
