CORVALLIS, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams concluded the first day of competition at the OSU High Performance Meet in Corvallis Ore., with noteworthy personal records and all-time record performances.
Â
Sophomore Michael Teran Solono produced a standout performance on the night with more than a 45 second personal record in the 5000m invitational heat, finishing third and crossing the finish line in 13:59.02.
Â
"That may have been one of the biggest breakthroughs in Pilot history!" said head coach Rob Conner. "It was definitely the race of the year for us. We are very proud of Michaels effort. The entire team was blown away by it, very inspiring."
Â
Senior Conor Johnston also had an exceptional night, winning his heat of the 5000m in 14:54.30. Redshirt sophomore Devin Wulff, in the same heat of the 5000m, finished just behind Johnston to set a personal record of 15:01.51.

"Conor Johnston had his best race as a Pilot winning his heat of the 5000m with a :36 second pr," continued Conner. "It was awesome!"
Â
On the women's side, redshirt freshman Lacey Conner and junior Taryn Rawlings highlighted the night. Conner finished fourth overall in the 3000m steeplechase (10:50.89) to move up to seventh all-time at UP, while Rawlings finished second in the 1500m invitational heat (4:17.20).
