NCAA West Preliminary Results
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – University of Portland junior Taryn Rawlings improved her
school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:13.35 to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet on the final day of the NCAA West Preliminary on Saturday night at Hornet Stadium.
Rawlings makes five Pilots that punched tickets the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 6-9 at Hayward Field in Eugene. It is the 27th consecutive year that Portland will be represented at the NCAA meet.
Senior Matt Welch and sophomore Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse both qualified in the men's 10,000-meter run on Thursday, while junior Lauren LaRocco secured a spot in the women's 10,000-meter run as well. Redshirt freshman Riley Osen punched his ticket in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Friday.
Rawlings, who set a new Portland women's record in the 1,500m two weeks ago at the Portland Twilight, shaved more than a second off that time on Saturday.
"Taryn did an amazing job," Portland women's track coach Ian Solof said. "She really kept her composure when the pace picked up. Her last two laps were 66 and 63, which shows how strong she is. I am so proud of the progress she has made."
Portland was well-represented at the NCAA West Preliminary with 13 student-athletes competing in 15 different events. See below for complete meet results for Pilot runners.
