PORTLAND, Ore. --- Comcast SportsNet (Ch. 37) will televise the women’s soccer match between No. 6 Portland and No. 2 UCLA on Saturday, August 30 at 7 p.m. at Merlo Field. The game is a rematch of last year’s NCAA Quarterfinal match, which UCLA won 3-2 in double overtime in Los Angeles in November.
The Pilots and Bruins are no strangers, having played four times in the last three years. During the 2007 regular season, the Bruins defeated the Pilots by a 2-1 margin in overtime, also in Los Angeles. In 2006, UCLA once again prevailed 2-1 in Los Angeles in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
At the 2005 College Cup Final in College Station, Texas, the Pilots defeated the Bruins 4-0 to clinch an unbeaten season and win the school’s second national title in four years.
UCLA owns a 4-1-0 all-time advantage over the Pilots. The match on August 30 will be the Bruins first trip to Merlo Field at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex since 1997. The Bruins won that match, an NCAA First Round game, 1-0.
Replays of the game on August 30 will be shown on Comcast SportsNet (Ch. 37) on Sunday, August 31 at 4 p.m., Monday, September 1 at 10:30 p.m. and Tuesday, September 2 at 5 p.m.
