Scouting Santa Clara
The Broncos (12-5-1, 4-1-0 WCC) won a pair of 1-0 West Coast Conference home matches last weekend versus Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. Santa Clara needed double overtime before Allie Vernon notched the game winner against the Waves. SCU outshot Pepperdine 15-4 for the match and Lisa Lahman made two saves to preserve the shutout for the Broncos. In Sunday’s win over LMU, Jordan Angeli scored the game-winner in the 43rd minute. Lahman again made two saves in recording the Bronco’s eighth shutout on the year. Angeli leads the Broncos with six goals and three assists, while Kiki Bosia adds three goals and five assists. Santa Clara is outscoring opponents 25-16 this season and has played some of the top teams in the nation. Key results came in the form of victories against Purdue (3-1) and Notre Dame (2-0) as well as a tie versus California (1-1). Losses have come to Stanford (6-2), USC (2-) and San Diego (1-0). Head coach Jerry Smith is in his 23rd year at Santa Clara and posts a 354-109-35 career record. Smith and the Broncos have won nine WCC regular season championships, one shy of Portland. Santa Clara battled through numerous injuries and finished 4-12-4 overall last year, missing the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 1989. The Broncos hold a 14-12-2 series record lead over the Pilots, but Portland has won the last two meetings, including a 4-0 shutout at Merlo Field last season.

More Foxhoven...
There have been nine weeks of college women’s soccer and Portland has had a player earn NATIONAL player of the week honors six times. The latest was Foxhoven who was honored by TopDrawerSoccer.com and Soccer America after last weekend’s scoring assault. It is the third time she has earned national player of the week honors this year and fourth WCC Player of the Week award.

With 37 career goals, Foxhoven is already tied for seventh on the UP charts and her 88 points are tied for 10th.

Portland has won 10 WCC regular season titles in 17 years affiliated with the league and posts a 101-13-6 (.867) all-time against WCC competition.
Bermuda Triangle
Portland is the only team in the nation to have three players with 10 or more goals, according to collegesoccer360.com. Foxhoven (21), Enyeart (12) and Schmidt (10) comprise the highest scoring trio in the nation.
Davis: Lowe’s Senior CLASS Finalist
Kelsey Davis has been named one of 10 women’s soccer finalists for the 2009 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, presented to one NCAA Division I individual per sport. Online fan voting is available right now at seniorclassaward.com. Fan votes will be combined with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. Eligible student-athletes must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition. Davis looks to follow in the footsteps of former Pilot teammate Stephanie Cox, who was the inaugural women’s soccer winner in 2007.
Home Sweet Home
Portland has led the nation in average attending four years in a row and 2009 is off to a good start too. A standing room only crowd of 5,068 (the third largest crowd in Merlo Field history) witnessed a 4-0 Pilot win over California in the season opener. Through nine games, Portland is averaging 3,558 fans.
