USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Portland Pilots women’s basketball team defeated the Air Force falcons 73-65 Friday at Clune Arena. Four Pilots reached double-digits in scoring, led by sophomore transfer Natalie Day’s 19 points.
Portland (1-2) held a narrow 33-32 lead against the Falcons (1-3) going into halftime. Out of the break, the Pilots raced away on a 29-9 run to own a 62-41 lead with 8:26 left on the clock. Air Force rallied back, fueled by four three-pointers in less than five minutes from Raimee Beck to threaten the Portland lead at 64-58. But the Pilots hung tough and senior guard Laiken Dollente finished four free throws in the final minute and a half to seal the victory.
Sophomore Alexis Gannis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Dollente notched 13 points, while junior Lauren Angel followed with 11 points.
Sophomore ReZine Teclemariam dished out eight assists as the Pilots totaled 21 assists on 26 field goals.
Air Force’s Beck led all players with a game-high 25 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Portland had a 6-0 edge in blocked shots and shot 41.3 percent from the field, while the Falcons shot 44.1 percent.
The Pilots will next host Sacramento State on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chiles Center.
