CLEVELAND – For the second year in a row, Portland Pilots Women's Basketball had a student-athlete earn DI-AAA Athletic Director's Association (Di-AAA, ADA) scholar-athlete status, making the 24
th annual scholar team.
Spear becomes the second DI-AAA scholar-athlete in program history. To qualify, an athlete must hold a 3.20 cumulative GPA and also be a starter or reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. They also must have played in at least 50% of a team's contests and hold at least junior academic standing.
Spear adds to her academic honors, having made the CSC Academic All-District Team for the second year in a row and earning WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention. Spear was a crucial piece for the Pilots, averaging a career-high 9.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals per contest. Her steals average ranked sixth in the WCC last season. In January, Spear recorded eight steals against the Seattle U Redhawks, the most by a Pilot in a single game since 2017 and the second highest total by any Pilot in program history.
The Pilots finished the year at 20-15 overall and 11-7 in WCC play, earning at least 20 wins for the sixth time in seven years and the fifth season in a row. It's the first time in program history the Pilots have posted five straight years of at least 20 wins in a row. They made the WNIT for their seventh straight season qualifying for postseason play, earning two wins to make the Super 16. All seven wins for the Pilots ever in the postseason have come under head coach Michael Meek.
