Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- Sophomore Beau Fraser hit his first home run of the season in support of battery mate Ed Wakefield as the Portland Pilots beat the Memphis Tigers 7-2 in a non-conference game Monday afternoon at FedExPark. Keeler Brynteson pitched a perfect two innings of relief to pick up his first save of the season.
Seven of the nine starters for the Pilots (9-2) had hits while Memphis (4-7) was limited to just six hits. Senior Ed Wakefield (1-0) scattered all six of those hits and two runs (one earned) over 5.2 solid innings. Sophomore Owen Jones pitched 1.1 hitless innings before handing the ball to Brynteson.
Memphis used three relievers after starter Dan Langfield (1-2) exited after five innings. While the Tigers issued no free passes, two errors allowed the Pilots to score three unearned runs in the middle innings. The Pilots also scored runs on a balk and then added an insurance run in the ninth on a wild pitch.
Portland now returns to Oregon for the Oregon State Tournament, joining the Utah Utes and host Oregon State Beavers for a three team field. The Pilots open play against Utah at 2:00 PM Friday, March 12. Portland then plays the Beavers on Saturday before playing a double header on Sunday with one game against Utah and the other against Oregon State.
