14 of TecleMariam’s points came in the second half, helping the Pilots out-score the Broncos 49-28 after the break. The Pilots, who led by just six points at the half, came out of the locker room firing, eventually pushing the lead to 45-35 when Cassandra Brown drilled a three-pointer.
From there, UP would embark on a 19-5 run as the lead swelled to 24 points. Cassandra Thompson and TecleMariam each scored six points during the outburst to help the Pilots claim a 64-40 lead with 9:14 remaining.
The run would grow to 30-12 as Portland would eventually lead by 29 points before the final buzzer.
TecleMariam shot seven of 12 from the field to lead four Portland players in double figures. Day was 7-for-13, while also grabbing a team-best seven rebounds, and Brown and Jasmine Wooton each scored 10 points.
Thompson and Alexis Byrd both added nine points to help the Pilots to their highest point total of the season.
Kinzi Poteet led Boise State with 14 points, while Lauren Lenhardt scored 12.
The Pilots shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half and 46.2 percent for the game. Portland connected on nine three-pointers and went 14-for-18 at the free throw line. The Broncos shot 33.9 percent from the field, hit just three three-poionters and converted 15 of 20 free throws.
Portland’s season-low eight turnovers helped the Pilots claim a sizeable 32-5 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Pilots also outscored the Broncos 12-4 in fast break points, and recorded a season-high 20 assists on their 30 field goals.
It was all Boise State early as the Broncos jumped out to a 13-6 lead six minutes into the game. The lead was then 15-9 in BSU’s favor before the Broncos cooled off a bit, allowing UP to score eight unanswered points. From there the game was back-and-forth before the Pilots were able to create some separation and take a 34-28 lead into the locker room.
Portland next plays its final non-conference game of the season as the Pilots host the Cal State Northridge Matadors at 7 p.m. at the Chiles Center on Wednesday night. The Pilots then take a week off before opening West Coast Conference play at home against the No. 25 Gonzaga Bulldogs on Dec. 29.
