PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland has announced the hiring of Jay Warnick as the school’s new Athletics Turf Manager. Warnick’s main responsibilities at UP will be managing the care, maintenance and renovation of all intercollegiate athletic fields and grounds.
Warnick, who has extensive experience with both professional teams and Universities, comes to UP from World Class Athletic Services, where he was the Director of the Western U.S. for the past four years. Prior to his stint with World Class, Warnick was the Grounds Director at BYU-Idaho from 2004 until 2007. He was responsible for all campus landscapes and athletic fields while in Idaho.
Warnick was also the Director of Fields for the Seattle Seahawks for four years (2000-04), the Director of Fields at the University of Utah for three years (1997-2000) and the Assistant Fields Director for the Baltimore Ravens four two years (1995-97).
Warnick, who earned a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from Utah State in 1995, has received and earned several awards, honors and certifications, including becoming one of the original 25 people to be professionally certified as a Sports Turf Manager.
At Portland, Warnick will work closely with coaches and administrators in the establishment and implementation of goals, policies and procedures for all of UP’s intercollegiate athletic fields and grounds, which includes the Clive Charles Soccer Complex and Joe Etzel Field.
