VANCOUVER, B.C. --- The U.S. Women's National Team, featuring UP alum Megan Rapinoe starting at midfielder, defeated Canada 4-0 on Sunday night at BC Place to clinch the championship of the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Both the U.S. and Canada, which featured former Portland standouts Christine Sinclair and Sophie Schmidt, qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
The victory gave the USA its third straight CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament title, improved its all-time record against Canada to 43-3-5 and improved its current unbeaten streak against its northern neighbors to 25 games.
Sinclair scored nine goals during the tournament, giving her 129 during her international career. Sinclair is Canada’s all-time leading goal scorer, and she ranks behind only Kristine Lilly (130), Abby Wambach (131) and Mia Hamm (158) of the U.S.
