PORTLAND, Ore. --- 2012 Olympic gold medalist and former Portland Pilots women’s soccer standout Megan Rapinoe will attend Sunday’s game against Loyola Marymount at Merlo Field, and the midfielder will be honored with a halftime ceremony. Rapinoe will also take part in a post-game autograph zone.
Rapinoe and Team USA claimed the women’s soccer gold medal in London last summer with a 2-1 win over Japan in front of a crowd of 80,203 at famed Wembley Stadium. Rapinoe had three goals and three assists during the Olympic games.
Rapinoe was an All-American midfielder for the Pilots, and she helped Portland win the NCAA Championship as a freshman in 2005. Rapinoe, who battled through a pair of knee injuries while at UP, was the 2008 West Coast Conference Player of the Year and she is among the school’s top 10 list in both points (88) and assists (28). She is also one of just ten players in school history with 30 goals and 25 assists.
Sunday’s autograph zone, which will also feature the current Portland women’s soccer team, will take place after the conclusion of the LMU-UP match and will be located inside the Chiles Center, which is next to Merlo Field.
Tickets are available for Sunday afternoon’s game and can be purchased through Ticketmaster, 1-800-745-3000 or http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/123603, and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
