EUGENE, Ore. --- The No. 9 Oregon Ducks scored eight runs in the first three innings and would go onto claim an 8-2 win over the Portland Pilots in a non-conference baseball game played on Tuesday night at PK Park. The loss drops Portland to 2-6 on the year, while the Ducks remain unbeaten at 8-0.
Â
Portland freshman reliever Alex Fisher did well to silence the Oregon bats after entering the game in the fourth inning, but the damage had already been done. The Ducks scored six runs in the first inning, with three of those runs coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Shaun Chase.
Â
Oregon's J.B. Bryant had an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning and Austin Grebeck added an RBI single in the third as the Ducks jumped ahead 8-0.
Â
Portland did get two runs back in the top of the fourth, courtesy an RBI ground out by Ryan Littlefield and a run-scoring single from Ryan Barr.
Â
But that's all the offense the Pilots could put together as Oregon starter Jeff Gold (2-0) and three relievers combined to hold Portland to just three hits. Gold fanned seven in 5.0 innings.
Â
UP starter Jackson Lockwood (2-1) takes the loss after allowing those six runs, his first runs surrendered this season, on nine hits in 3.0 innings. The sophomore right-hander struck out a pair.
Â
Fisher, a Portland native out of Grant High School, yielded just two hits in 4.0 scoreless innings in relief of Lockwood. He also struck three and walked just once before giving way to J.R. Bunda, who worked a scoreless eighth.

The Pilots next return home to host the UC Irvine Anteaters for a three-game series at Joe Etzel Field this weekend. Friday's opener is set for 2 p.m., while first pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday's series finale was moved up to 12 p.m. to accommodate UC Irvine's travel plans.
