SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland baseball players Trey Swygart and Will Labonte were named to the All-West Coast Conference Second Team, Alex Via garnered honorable mention recognition and Labonte, Via and Leo Cote all were named to the All-Freshman Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Swygart, a sophomore from Middleton, Idaho, became the first Pilot semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award. He batted .270 on the season with 11 doubles, six home runs, 27 runs scored and 30 runs batted in. His on-base percentage of .418 was second on the roster. On the mound, the right-hander posted a 5-2 record with a 3.86 ERA. He made 13 appearances, started four games and struck out 41 batters in 49.0 innings of work.
Labonte, a right-handed freshman from Montreal, Quebec, was one of the top freshman pitchers in the country. He was named a College Baseball Hall of Fame 2026 National Pitcher of the Year semifinalist, becoming the first Pilot since 2022 to earn the honor. Labonte was one of just two freshmen to make the list and one of two players from the WCC. He finished the campaign with a 3-2 record and 2.82 ERA, which is No. 4 in the WCC. Labonte logged a team-high 73.1 innings, racked up 58 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .240 average.
Via hails from Bend, Ore. and was a semifinalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year, which honors the top relief pitchers in the country. The right-hander made a team-best 21 appearances and collected nine saves, which is the most of any freshman in the country and tied for second in the WCC. He had a 2.59 ERA and struck out 28 hitters in 31.1 total innings. Via limited the opposition to a minuscule .174 average.
Cote is a redshirt freshman from Montreal, Quebec who transferred to Portland from Oregon State. The power-hitting corner infielder belted seven home runs and drove in 25 runs. He started 32 games and appeared in 38 overall hitting .230 with a .442 slugging percentage.
The Pilots finished the 2026 season with a 27-25 overall record marking the fourth time in the last five seasons under head coach Geoff Loomis that the team finished above .500. The young Portland roster featured just six seniors.
