THIS WEEK • The Portland Pilots take their two-game winning streak on the road with West Coast Conference games at Pacific on Thursday night and at Saint Mary's on Saturday.
• Thursday's tip-off with the Tigers at the Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif., is set for 7 p.m.
• Saturday's game vs. the Gaels at the McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, Calif., will begin at 1 p.m.
• Both games will be streamed live on TheW.tv.
LAST WEEK • Portland had a pair of 30-point scorers at home last week as the Pilots cruised past the LMU Lions 83-65 on Thursday night and the Pepperdine Waves 80-61 on Saturday afternoon.
• Jasmine Wooton exploded for 30 points against the Lions with the help of a 12-for-15 shooting night at the free throw line.
• On Saturday it was Cassandra Brown who poured in 30 points; Brown added 22 against the Lions to average 26.0 points during the weekend; the senior guard shot 65.2 percent (15-for-23) overall, was 7 of 12 from three-point range and went a perfect 15-for-15 on free throws.
ABOUT THE PILOTS • Senior Cassandra Brown is having a remarkable year and has scored 20 points during six of seven WCC games, averaging a league-best 22.1 points against conference opponents; she scored a season-best 30 points during a win over LMU on Thursday.
• Brown currently ranks ninth in the country in free throw percentage (58-for-64, .906) and is 11th nationally in three-point percentage (47-for-103, .456); Portland as a team is 11th in the country in three-point percentage (111-for-290, .383) as well.
• Brown (1,198), Kari Luttinen (1,180) and Jasmine Wooton (1,004) have each became 1,000 career point scorers this season, with Wooton accomplishing the feat on Saturday against the Waves; Luttinen scored her 1,000th career point during a win against Utah (Nov. 29), while Brown reached the milestone during the win over Portland State (Dec. 12).
• Portland has never had three players reach 1,000 career points during the same season.
• Wooton had a career-best nine assists against BYU (Dec. 29), which was the most assists by a Pilot since ReZina TecleMariam handed out nine assists on Jan. 2, 2012.
• Brown was named to the Nugget Classic All-Tournament Team (Nov. 28-29) after averaging 14.0 points per game to help the Pilots claim the consolation trophy; during Portland's win over Utah (Nov. 29) she had 20 points and nine boards.
• Brown leads the WCC in three-point shooting and free throw percentage, she's second in three-pointers made, fourth in field goal percentage (.500) and ranks fifth in scoring
• Head coach Cheryl Sorenson is in her first year at the helm of the UP women's basketball program; Sorenson spent three years as an assistant coach with the Pilots before replacing long-time head coach Jim Sollars, who retired after 28 years on The Bluff.
• Wooton was named to the All-West Coast Conference Preseason Women's Basketball Team and the Pilots were tabbed to finish seventh in the preseason coaches' poll.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS • The Tigers are coming off a pair of losses and sit at 13-5 (5-2 WCC) on the year; they rank second in the WCC in scoring (69.7) and are led by senior post Kendall Kenyon (14.8 ppg, 10.7 rpg).
• Lynne Roberts is in her ninth season as head coach at Pacific.
• The Gaels are currently in second place in the WCC with an overall record of 13-5 and a 6-1 league mark; their lone conference loss came at home to Pacific.
• SMC junior guard Lauren Nicholson is the team's top scorer (19.0 ppg) and head coach Paul Thomas is in his ninth year with the Gaels.
