THIS WEEK • The Portland Pilots have a busy week, beginning with a road game Tuesday night at Portland State; tip-off at the Stott Center is set for 7 p.m.
• The Pilots then return to The Bluff to host the Weber State Wildcats and the UC Davis Aggies during the weekend.
• The Wildcats visit for a 4 p.m. game on Friday, and Sunday brings a 2 p.m. tilt with the Aggies; admission is free to Friday's game vs. Weber State.
LAST WEEK
• The Pilots dropped a pair of games in the state of Montana last weekend, succumbing 86-57 to Montana State on Friday before Montana pulled away for a 90-67 win on Sunday.
• Against the Griz, Corissa Turley had a career-high 16 points by the half as the Pilots built a 41-38 lead; but it was all Montana after the break as they cruised to the win; Turley finished the day with a team-high 18 points.
• Portland combined to hit a season-high 11 three-pointers against the Bobcats.
ABOUT THE PILOTS • The Pilots lead the West Coast Conference in three-point percentage (.426).
• Individually, junior guard Rachelle Owens leads the WCC in assists, with a per game mark of 3.8; Ashley Gray, a sophomore forward, is tops in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting .650 (13-for-20) on the year; freshman Ellie Woerner is second in three-point shooting (6-for-10, .600).
• The new-look Pilots feature six newcomers to go along with six returners in head coach Cheryl Sorenson's second year at the helm of the program.
• Junior transfer guards Holly Blades and Rachelle Owens both came to The Bluff from the College of Southern Idaho, while guard Corissa Turley previously attended College of the Sequoias.
• Turley is currently first on team in scoring (12.5 ppg).
• Completing the newcomers are three freshmen, two of which hail from the Pacific Northwest; post Julie Spencer is originally from Chehalis, Wash., while guard Ellie Woerner calls Sammamish, Wash., home; Darian Slaga is from Prescott Valley, Ariz.
• Woerner has been red-hot from the field, shooting 48.4 percent overall and is six of 10 (.600) from behind the three-point arc; she is second on the squad in scoring at 10.3 points per contest.
• Slaga (4.8 rpg) is tops in rebounds.
• Headlining Portland's six returners are junior guards Hannah Mattson and Kaylie Van Loo; both Mattson and Van Loo appeared in all 30 games last year, with each making eight starts.
• Sophomore posts Ashley Gray and Sara Zaragoza also return after promising freshman campaigns; Gray leads the league in field goal percentage (.650).
• During the summer, Zaragoza helped Spain claim the gold medal the 2015 U20 FIFA European Championships.
• Cheryl Sorenson is in her second season as head coach of the Pilots after assuming the role last year after long-time coach Jim Sollars' retirement.
• Sorenson spent her first three years on The Bluff as an assistant coach.
• The Pilots lost three 1,000-point scorers to graduation; Cassandra Brown (1,396 points), Kari Luttinen (1,366 points) and Jasmine Wooton (1,130 points) all reached that historic milestone last year, becoming the first Pilot trio to do so in the same season.
• Brown captivated the nation last year when she won the 2015 State Farm Three-Point Championship (men's and women's) on ESPN, which was part of Final Four Weekend in Indianapolis, Ind.; Brown defeated Dayton's Andrea Hoover in the women's final before conquering Gonzaga's Kevin Pangos, who was the men's champion.
• The Pilots were picked to finish 10th in the WCC this season.
• Portland has been to four NCAA Tournaments (1994-97), two WNIT's (1998 & 2009) and one WBI (2010).
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS • The Vikings enter Tuesday night with a 0-3 record with loses to Warner Pacific, Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton.
• Freshman guard Michaela Kay leads the team in scoring (14.3 ppg), while freshman forward Pia Jurhar is tops in rebounding (9.0 rpg).
• Former Southern Oregon head coach Lynn Kennedy is in his first year at the helm of the Vikings.
• Weber State is 3-1 on the season, claiming wins over Bethesda, Denver and Cal State Fullerton; their lone loss came to Charleston.
• Freshman guard Kailie Quinn is third in the Big Sky Conference in scoring (15.8 ppg).
• Bethann Ord is in her fifth year as head coach of the Wildcats.
• UC Davis has won two straight after opening the season with loses to Stanford and Pacific; the Aggies have defeated San Diego State and Air Force.
• Senior forward Alyson Doherty leads the Aggies in scoring (11.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 ppg).
• Former UC Davis standout guard Jennifer Gross is in her fifth year as head coach.
