PORTLAND, Ore. – The West Coast Conference announced on Friday the 2025-26 schedule for conference play for women's basketball, including the schedule for the Portland Pilots.
This year marks the first time the WCC will feature an imbalanced conference schedule. The Pilots will only play the Pacific Tigers and San Diego Toreros at home this season and the LMU Lions and San Francisco Dons on the road.
Portland begins conference play on the road, taking on the Saint Mary's Gaels and San Francisco Dons on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30 respectively. The Dons finished fifth and the Gaels sixth in the WCC respectively, with Saint Mary's going 10-10 in conference and 14-17 overall and San Francisco finishing 11-9 in WCC play and 15-16 overall. The Pilots swept both teams last season.
The Pilots welcome the Washington State Cougars and Pacific Tigers the following weekend, playing the Cougars on Friday, Jan 2 and the Tigers Sunday, Jan 4. Portland swept both squads last year, with the Washington State Cougars posting a 21-14 overall and 14-6 in WCC play and the Tigers 15-19 overall and 9-11 in conference. The Cougars partook in the WNIT last year as well, advancing to the Super 16, and also played the Pilots in the semifinals of the 2025 Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship. Portland took the contest 72-57 after trailing by double digits at halftime.
The bye comes next before the Pilots head to Spokane to take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs. The Pilots shared the regular season title with the Bulldogs last season, with both teams finishing 17-3 overall in conference play. The Bulldogs went 24-11 overall and beat the Pilots in both contests last year. Gonzaga advanced to the quarterfinals of the WBIT as well as the Pilots.
The Pilots will split time down in Santa Clara and at the Chiles Center, playing the Santa Clara Broncos on Jan. 15 down at the Leavey Center before welcoming the WCC newcomers in the Seattle U Redhawks to Portland on Jan. 17. The Broncos – who the Pilots also swept last season – went 14-17 overall and 8-12 in WCC play to finish eighth. The Redhawks – coached by former Pilot assistant coach Skyler Young – went 4-26 last season and lost to the Pilots at the Chiles Center last year.
A trip to Southern California follows, with the Pilots taking on the LMU Lions on Jan. 22 before heading to Malibu for a showdown against the Pepperdine Waves on Jan. 24. The Lions were ninth in the WCC last season with a 14-16 record overall and 7-13 finish in conference play. Pepperdine was 8-22 overall and 3-17 in the conference. Portland swept both teams last season.
Portland returns home for a rematch against the Saint Mary's Gaels on Jan. 29 before hosting the San Diego Toreros on Jan. 31. The Toreros finished last in the WCC last season at 7-24 overall and 2-18 in conference play. Portland took both contests against the Toreros last year.
The Pilots get a bye the next week before taking on the defending WCC Champs in the Oregon State Beavers on Feb. 7. Oregon State defeated the Pilots in the championship game of the tournament last year and took one of two regular season contests against Portland. Finishing 19-16 overall and 12-8 in WCC play, they fell in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament to the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Portland plays Washington State on the road on Feb. 12 before returning home to host Santa Clara on Feb. 14. The final two road games follow the next weekend against Oregon State in Corvallis on Feb. 19 and against Seattle U on Feb. 21. The Pilots close the season at home against Pepperdine and Gonzaga on Feb. 26 and Feb. 28 respectively.
The Pilots put together a historic season in 2024-25, posting a 31-5 record overall and 17-3 record in WCC play. They broke a program record for wins in a season while also earning a share of the WCC Regular Season title. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the WBIT in their first time ever in the tournament, earning two playoff wins on the road for the first time in program history, including a win over the Stanford Cardinal in the opening round. They advanced to their third straight WCC Tournament Championship game and their fourth in six seasons.
