The Pilots used a 12-2 run highlighted by three-pointers from Tyson and Johnson to take a 20-12 lead early. Foul trouble forced the Pilots to go small to close the half and the Buffs took advantage with 11 first-half points off of offensive rebounds to cut into the margin.
Colorado opened the second half with a 15-7 run, but another triple from Tyson made it 51-48 with 8:45 remaining. The Pilots went cold and the Buffs, who missed all seven three-pointers in the first half, found their range and pushed the lead to double digits down the stretch.
