Women's Schedule/ResultsSALEM, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track & field teams were at the Willamette Invitational on Saturday. In her first outdoor season on the track, Parkes Kendrick took the top spot in the 5,000m with her time of 16:19.93, which is currently the fourth fastest time in the nation.
In her first meet of the season, Kaylie Van Loo won the javelin with a throw of 155' 2.75". In other field action, both Nathan DeVaughn and Courtney Vacek won their events. DeVaughn took first in the long jump with his leap of 22' 3.5" and Vacek claimed the top spot with her triple jump mark of 38' 8.25".
"Kaylie threw great and is off to a fantastic start," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "She definitely has her sights on nationals. Parkes really ran tough and surprised herself with a great 5k that qualifies her for the NCAA first round."
On the track, Jack Welch took first in his 200m heat with his time of 22.47. Maria Montt placed fourth in the women's 200m with her time of 25.19. Andrea Theriau took eight overall in the 800m when she crossed the line in 2:19.29.
The Pilots will next be in action on April 1 at the Stanford Invite.
